Mangalore Style Mushroom Curry Recipe is a rich, flavorful, and comforting Indian style dish made with fresh button mushrooms simmered in a creamy onion tomato gravy infused with aromatic spices. The combination of ginger garlic paste, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala creates a well balanced curry with deep, savory flavors.
Heat 2 tbsp oil or ghee in a heavy bottomed pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for 30 seconds. Add finely chopped onions and saute until golden brown. Then add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
Step 2: Cook Tomatoes & Spices
Add chopped tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften and the oil starts separating from the masala.
Step 3: Add Mushrooms & Simmer
Add sliced mushrooms and mix well with the masala. Pour in 1 cup water, cover, and simmer for 8–10 minutes until mushrooms are tender. Stir in yogurt or coconut milk and cook for another 2–3 minutes.
Step 4: Finish & Garnish
Add fresh cream and garam masala, mixing gently. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped cilantro, and serve hot with rice or Indian bread.
