Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock or vegetable stock
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder or garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Cook The Onion, Garlic, And Ginger

  • Warm the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and lightly clear, about 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and fresh ginger, then cook for another minute until the aroma fills the kitchen.

Step 2: Mix In The Main Ingredients

  • Add the ketchup, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and stock to the pan. Stir everything together until the mixture looks smooth and well blended.

Step 3: Add The Spices

  • Sprinkle in the brown sugar, paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, curry powder or garam masala, and cayenne pepper. Stir carefully so the seasonings blend evenly throughout the sauce.

Step 4: Let The Sauce Cook

  • Lower the heat and allow the sauce to cook slowly for 15 to 20 minutes. Stir from time to time as it thickens into a rich and glossy texture.

Step 5: Blend And Enjoy

  • Blend the sauce if you want a smoother finish. An immersion blender works well, though a regular blender can also be used. Let the sauce cool for a few minutes before serving. Brush it over grilled meat, serve beside fries, or use it as a flavorful marinade.
