Grater (for fresh Parmesan, if not using pre-grated)
Ingredients
1loaf of French breador Italian bread, sliced in half lengthwise
4tablespoonsunsalted buttermelted
2clovesgarlicminced, or 1 teaspoon garlic powder
1teaspoondried oregano
1/2teaspoondried basil
1/4teaspoonred pepper flakesoptional for a little heat
1 ½cupsshredded mozzarella cheese
½cupfreshly grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh parsleychopped, for garnish
Instructions
1: Preheat the Oven
Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). While it’s heating up, prep the bread.
2: Prepare the Garlic Butter Mixture
In a small bowl, melt the butter in the microwave or on the stove top. Once melted, add the minced garlic (or garlic powder), oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir everything together until the garlic is evenly distributed throughout the butter.
3: Prepare the Bread
Place the French bread (or Italian bread) on a baking sheet, cut-side up. Use a basting brush to generously coat the cut sides of the bread with the garlic butter mixture. Be sure to spread it evenly for maximum flavor!
4: Add the Cheese
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella over both halves of the bread, followed by a generous amount of grated Parmesan. The mozzarella gives a creamy, gooey texture, while the Parmesan adds a sharp, nutty flavor that makes this bread irresistible.
5: Bake
Put the bread in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling. For an extra crispy crust, turn the broiler on for the last 10-15 minutes of baking, keeping a close eye to ensure the bread doesn’t burn.
6: Garnish and Serve
Once the bread is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the top to add a pop of colour and freshness. Slice it up and serve!
